Played my first game against konrad (1 dan) since i've become a 5kyu and won by 15.5, i played a solid game not taking chance and he just could'nt catch up the handicap. Makes me feel solid at the 5kyu level :)

Transcontinental Match

We have started playing a transcontinental team match between our club and a Go club in Seattle USA, things are just starting out but this could get interesting. Will update if anything odd happens.

It's been quiet lately with me having lots of assignments and birthdays and blablabla , things will get back to normal from next week.

This post starts 2 weeks ago when I was on a -50 index but feeling ok as an 6kyu, i then played Llyod 2kyu and after winning the close match i moved up to 200 index. Then i played steve 3k in my Western Cape Closed 2nd round game and beat him on scratch, this gave me a huge boost in index and i became a 5kyu YAY!, then not knowing this i played Lloyd 2kyu and Bernard 2kyu both as if i was a 6kyu and winning both games i am now a 5kyu with an 152 index.

So last night i got to the Stellenbosch club with Jaco and had some sushi at the local noodle bar, after a relaxing meal Steve asked me if we can play our Western Cape Closed 2nd Round game, Steve is a 3k and I am a 6k kyu, so even if I have beaten him before I was very nervous (All games in WC Closed are even games).
After a eventfull game I won by 9.5 after his komi .... Yippee!!! but now I have to play my nemesis and all time rival in go - Jaco , this will be and epic game but I don't have that much hope of winning :(

I played Lloyd who has been promoted to 2k recently with a 4 handicap and after having ups and downs , i eventually counted , realised i was only 1 point ahead , played my 3 sente moves and won by 4.5. Congratulations to Jaco for beating Andrew 1k on a 3 hanicap by resign.

Quiet times

It's been quiet lately , tuesday evening at the Cape Town Club only had Jaco playing Lloyd in a really serious game the rest of us just fiddled along, tonight i'll be playing Lious a 17kyu at the Stellenbosch Club for my first round game in the Western Cape Closed , after that the tournament is a very bad draw for me with 4 out of my 6 main opponents with me in the second half. Will have to start lifting my game even higher if i intend to get anywhere in this rournament.

Cape Town Open

So after a long day , difficult matches played and mixed emotions on the outcomes here is the results, GAME 1: I played Bernard the 2kyu (our club's strongest player) with a 1 Handicap and made a big mistake in the opening - then started fights all over and brought it back but ended up loosing by 14,5. GAME 2: I plated Chris the 9kyu and the weakest player in the tournament (but by no means weak) and after a huge battle i won by resign. GAME 3: I played Steve the 3kyu and after the opening was convincingly ahead but made a huge blunder and it brought him back into the game , after playing most of the game steve tried to invade in my corner but i killed the group - but when he later came back and tried his luck i didnt think what i was doing , played a stupid move instead of the one i new was right and his group lived , mine died and i ended up resigning. I am very dissapointed about losing to steve in a game that i should never have lost but that's life i suppose :(

Well tomorrow is the Cape Town Open and even though i really like playing in tournaments , for some reason im just not excited about this one. I hope tomorrow morning when we register i'll get all excited and be ready, ill post some pics when we get back tomorrow evening.

So after messing up in my last handicap game and throwing away a won game , i have my REVENGE!!, i played konrad the 1Dan and strongest player in the Western Cape with 6 handicap. Even though i held back here and there , with the fear of throwing the game again - i played solidly and he resigned not seeing a way to win snicker :) Nice boost in confidence for the WC Open.

Kinda found out that the assignments i was waiting for from UNISA were in the information pages of all of my subjects , so besides feeling like a total dumbass for sending them email demanding my work - i now have 2 work like a slave for the next week to meet all the deadlines.
Now i can't spend any time studying go to prepare for saturdays' Cape Town Open :( , jeez what a screw up.

After having a nice busy day yesterday , today just sucks , its not that i don't wanna hang around and chill a bit , nooooooo thats the feeling that gets made on sundays but actually it's do this and do that and I've made up my mind - I'm deleting Sunday of the rest of the calendar for this year -.-

So we get to the Stellenbosch club tonight (Thursday) and the strongest player at the club , Bernard, says we should play a game ..... He is a 2kyu and im a 6kyu so he gives me the 4 handicap and we play.
All goes reasonably well until i get stubborn , refuse to defend my group and play something else i think is big , and after a big fight i lose the game :( Im so dissapointed.
